Stronger protections for auto broker customers

New York auto brokers must attach two detachable copies of a cancellation notice to contracts, in at least 12-point type. The notice must explain that you can cancel without penalty or obligation within three days after receiving your signed contract copy, or until the car is delivered, whichever comes first. If delivery is not completed as agreed within 30 days after the estimated delivery date, you can cancel for a full refund—unless you caused the delay. Other cancellation rights under New York law remain available. The form must list the broker’s name and address; you must mail or deliver it there within the applicable timeframe. Brokers must state that they are not affiliated with dealers, vehicle franchisors, manufacturers, or distributors; the law prohibits those affiliations. These changes take effect on the same date and in the same manner as the 2024 auto broker reform identified as S.7553-A and A.3499-B.
