More employment and support help for veterans

Effective immediately, New York state and local veterans’ agencies must help residents access the employment program for veterans with disabilities under Civil Service Law §55-c. The state veterans’ department must create an online employment portal linking to federal and state labor departments and state civil service resources. It must update the information annually and include it in reports to the governor and legislature. The department may also share printed information and consult community groups focused on veterans’ employment. Local agencies must help veterans and their families with the process for applying to the discharge upgrade advisory board. Under the state commissioner’s direction, local agencies may also help families of reserve and organized militia members on active duty find and receive appropriate support.
