Clear offer letters for New York state hires and promotions

Appointing authorities in the classified service must give you a written appointment or promotion letter within 14 days of the appointment’s effective date. The letter states your appointment type and position type, and if not permanent or full-time, the expected duration or percent time. It shows the job’s jurisdictional class, any probation period with minimum and maximum length, and any tenure rights after probation. It lists your starting pay specific to you and the full salary range, and explains any pay cut if you move from a higher grade. It gives your bargaining unit and union contact. If you are in a trainee title, it shows the traineeship length, target title and grade, all advancement requirements, the review schedule, and performance advances. If you hold another position on leave, it tells when that hold ends and when you can return. It also includes benefit information and links for health, dental, retirement, the New York State deferred compensation plan, and any other required info. If you report an error, the authority must review it and either send a corrected letter within 60 days or tell you the letter is correct.
