Listed churches skip attorney general notice

Listed churches do not have to notify New York’s attorney general for covered court filings involving church property. The exemption covers churches listed in Religious Corporations Law section 12, subdivisions 2, 3, 4, 5, 5-a, 5-b, 5-c, 5-d, or 6. It applies to applications under section 12(1) of that law. It also covers applications or petitions under Not-for-Profit Corporation Law sections 510 or 511.

Greek Orthodox trustees need archbishop’s property consent

Trustees of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America must get the archbishop’s consent before seeking court approval for property transactions. This applies when they ask to sell, mortgage, or lease the Archdiocese’s real property.
