Energy customers get clearer price comparisons

Energy services companies must give residential and small non-residential customers price comparisons on every bill’s first page. These show the last billing period’s energy supply and delivery charges beside the local utility or municipal alternative. Energy-related add-on products and their prices must be listed separately. Every 12 months, companies must compare the past year’s supply, delivery, and add-on charges with that alternative, clearly showing savings or extra costs. Companies must pay utilities’ and municipalities’ compliance costs through a process set by the Public Service Commission. They cannot pass any costs of meeting these comparison requirements on to customers. The act takes effect immediately, but these requirements start with the related 2025 law, which takes effect 180 days after enactment. The commission can issue implementing rules before that start date.
