Water safety info for school families

Beginning July 1, 2026, school districts must give families information on drowning prevention, water safety, and healthy swimming. At the start of the 2026–27 school year, districts send it to every student’s parent or guardian; if the student is 18 or older, the student gets it. After that, districts provide it when a student enrolls. Materials can be sent electronically or on paper, and districts must post them on their websites. Upon request, parents or guardians can get translations in any of the twelve most common non‑English languages used in the state. The state health department creates and updates the materials and supplies them to districts.
