Extra school voting day after disasters

Beginning July 1, 2026, the Commissioner can add one extra voting day when a disaster, such as a fire or power failure, keeps turnout under 8% at a school election. The extra day is held 7 to 14 days after, or as soon as feasible; after a budget revote, it is at least 5 days later and no later than June 30. The school board sets the hours, but polls must be open at least 11 hours. The Commissioner sets the date and the district clerk must publish notice twice each week, mail all qualified voters, and post on the website. Ballots are provided at public expense, and any voting machines used stay sealed and are reused on the extra day.

Who can vote on extra day

Beginning July 1, 2026, only people who were qualified on the original date and did not vote then can vote on the extra day. You must vote in person at the polling place on that day. Absentee, military, and special ballot deadlines do not extend, but ballots received on the original date stay valid. The extra day is not a new submission of the item.
