E-signatures now valid on New York tax forms

You can sign New York State and New York City tax returns and forms electronically when e-filing is allowed. The state treats an electronic signature the same as a handwritten one. Agents with a valid POA-1 can e-sign any department document; a verified e-signature counts as acknowledged when the law requires it. Signatures must follow the State Technology Law; the tax department may set the format and align with IRS rules when practical. This change takes effect 120 days after enactment.
