The law lets Suffolk County remove a 0.232‑acre park parcel in Smithtown from park use and sell it to Russell and Deana Galindo for a home. The county can act only after the Galindos deed a 0.237‑acre parcel to the county and the county dedicates it as parkland. The county’s governing body must approve the deal, and the replacement parcel must not have been previously used by the county as public open space or parkland. If the replacement land is worth less, the county must spend the difference on buying parkland or improving parks. If federal money was used on the park, the sale cannot happen until federal rules are met, including showing equal value and usefulness to the U.S. Interior Department. The act takes effect immediately.
