2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Standard payment code for New York firearms dealers

Beginning November 1, 2024, payment card networks must make the firearms-and-ammunition merchant code created on September 9, 2022 available to processors. Starting May 1, 2025, processors must assign this code to each New York dealer of firearms. A dealer of firearms means a licensed gunsmith or firearms dealer whose highest sales value is from firearms, accessories, or ammunition, as told to the processor. Ammunition-only sellers are not covered by this assignment rule.

Ammunition-only sellers removed from payment code rule

The law deletes the separate definition of a dealer of ammunition. The merchant code framework now applies only to licensed firearms dealers whose highest sales value is from firearms, accessories, or ammunition. Ammunition-only sellers are no longer covered as a separate category. This change takes effect on the same date and in the same manner as the related 2024 law on merchant category codes.
