Removes dealers of ammunition from certain provisions regarding the use of certain merchant category-codes by payment card networks

Ammunition dealers exempt from payment-code rules

New York removes ammunition dealers from its firearms-and-ammunition merchant category code requirements. Coverage remains for state-licensed firearm dealers and gunsmiths whose highest or expected highest New York sales value comes from firearms, accessories, and ammunition combined, as reported to their payment processor. Payment card networks must make the code available to those processors by November 1, 2024. Processors must assign it to covered dealers by May 1, 2025. These deadlines use the code established by the International Organization for Standardization on September 9, 2022. The law takes effect on the same date and in the same manner as the related 2024 firearm merchant-code amendment.
