The law limits when businesses can sell or distribute polystyrene foam cold boxes. They are allowed for cold shipments of drugs and medical devices. They also cover animal biologics, including vaccines, and tissues or other biological products. Cold boxes for microbial cultures used in dairy, meat, or fermented drinks are allowed only through December 31, 2029. They are banned starting January 1, 2030. Cold boxes for temperature-sensitive lab samples or reagents to or from listed public health and food labs are allowed only through December 31, 2034. They are banned starting January 1, 2035. These boxes must be designed for cold storage and are not encased inside a harder outer box.
