Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Longer child-abuse records, limited employer sharing

If a court finds abuse or neglect, the indicated report stays on the State Central Register until 10 years after the youngest named child turns 18, unless the finding is vacated or dismissed. You cannot amend that indicated report. Employers who must screen people for work or volunteering with regular, substantial contact with children can be told the report exists, and child‑care agencies can be told if you apply to foster or adopt. No disclosure is allowed if it is a neglect finding that is eight or more years old, or if a prior administrative decision found the report not relevant to child‑contact positions.

Judge must explain consequences before admission

Before the court accepts your admission or consent in a child abuse or neglect case, the judge must warn you. The judge must say this will result in a fact-finding order. The judge must also explain the possible consequences of that order.
