Malverne can sell parkland for housing

The law takes effect immediately. Malverne can end park use and sell Lots 114 and 115, about 0.095 acres, for housing construction. The sale includes existing buildings and improvements and must be at fair market value. This authority requires the village to dedicate at least that value to buying parkland or making major park and recreation improvements. If federal money supported the property's purchase, upkeep, or improvements, the village must meet federal requirements before conversion or sale. This includes satisfying the Interior Secretary that replacement land has equal fair market value and usefulness.
