Malverne can sell small park for housing

The law lets the Village of Malverne stop using two small park parcels (Lots 114 and 115, about 0.095 acres) and sell them for housing at fair market value. Before any sale, the village must set aside at least the land’s fair market value to buy new parkland or improve parks and recreation space. If federal money helped buy, maintain, or improve this parkland, the village must follow federal rules and provide equal-value, equally useful replacement land approved by the U.S. Secretary of the Interior. The act takes effect immediately.
