Thiells-Roseville Fire District can seek tax relief

The Haverstraw assessor in Rockland County can accept the Thiells-Roseville Fire District’s late school and property tax exemption application. It covers the 2024–2025 assessment roll for five properties: 1 Angelus Drive and 69, 63, 63A, and 65 West Ramapo Road. The assessor must review the application as though it arrived by the original filing deadline. The assessor can grant exemption from all taxes and correct the roll if the district qualified at that deadline. The Haverstraw town board must also approve the exemption. Once granted, the governing body or tax department can choose to refund paid taxes, fines, and penalties. It can also choose to cancel unpaid taxes, fines, penalties, interest, and tax liens. The law corrects the exemption’s legal reference from Real Property Tax Law §464 to §410. It takes effect on the same date and in the same manner as the underlying 2025 exemption law.
