Oregon funds tribal consultation task force

Effective on passage, the law creates a 17-member task force to clarify Oregon agencies’ duties to consult with tribes. It includes one representative from each of Oregon’s nine federally recognized tribes and four state agency representatives. Legislative members cannot vote, and non-legislative members serve without pay or expense reimbursement. The Governor’s office provides staff and receives $70,000 from the General Fund for the two-year budget period beginning July 1, 2025. All state agencies must help and provide needed information and advice, but confidentiality laws still apply. The task force must report to a legislative interim committee by September 15, 2026, and may recommend legislation. The task force and agency support duties end December 31, 2026.
