The Department of Administrative Services sets statewide internal audit rules that follow national standards and protect audit integrity. Executive-branch agencies with audit units must assess risk across the whole agency. They must use that assessment to do at least one internal audit every year. Every five years, they must audit governance and risk management and file the report with DAS. Each year, DAS reports statewide audit activity for the prior fiscal year. It sends the report to the Joint Legislative Audit Committee or, if absent, to Ways and Means, the Emergency Board, or another committee named by leaders.
