Lower tuition for refugees and asylum seekers

Effective upon passage, the law exempts qualifying refugees, asylum seekers, and special immigrant visa holders from nonresident tuition and fees at Oregon public universities. Students must enroll in an undergraduate or graduate degree program. They must not have previously established residence in another U.S. state or territory, or Washington, D.C. Asylum seekers must have a pending asylum application. Oregon Health & Science University can offer similar exemptions under its board policies. These students are also eligible for university scholarships and financial aid under each school's policies.
