Beginning July 1, 2025, Oregon’s Supreme Court chief justice earns $224,784 a year. Other Supreme Court justices and the Court of Appeals chief judge earn $220,596; other appeals judges earn $216,336. Circuit court judges earn $204,060, and the Tax Court judge earns $209,532. Beginning July 1, 2027, salaries equal 110% of the matching 2025 salary, as adjusted under state law. The law adds about $11.33 million in General Fund money for judge pay for the two-year budget beginning July 1, 2025.
Effective on passage, the law authorizes Oregon’s chief justice to set education requirements for members of the state’s Judicial Conference. The chief justice can create an ombudsman’s office within the State Court Administrator’s office to receive and answer court-experience concerns. This authority includes standards for addressing judge performance concerns and individual judge plans requiring education, coaching, or mentoring. The chief justice can set information access and privacy rules; referrals to the Commission on Judicial Fitness and Disability remain unrestricted. The law adds about $1.91 million in General Fund money for this work for the two-year budget beginning July 1, 2025.
