These rules cover Oregon workers’ compensation claims with closure notices issued on or after January 1, 2026. Insurers and self-insured employers must pay permanent partial disability awards of $6,000 or less all at once. For larger awards, workers can request all or part at once after waiving reconsideration rights or when the award becomes final. Requested payments are not required while an insurer’s timely reconsideration request is pending or compensation is stayed during a hearing or review. They also are not required while the worker is enrolled and actively taking part in qualifying training. Any balance not paid at once remains payable under the regular payment rules. The law changes payment timing, not the total award.
