Oregon raises maximum license fees for commercial scales and measuring devices; the Department of Agriculture sets actual fees within those limits. For scales rated at 400 pounds or less, the maximum rises from $49 to $68. Static railroad track scale maximums rise from $1,334 to $1,730; measuring-tank maximums stay $115 below 500 gallons and $230 otherwise. Renewal fees become past due July 1; fees for newly installed devices become past due upon first commercial use. Program revenue goes into the Department of Agriculture Service Fund for program operations, including an emergency reserve capped at four months of operating costs.
The Department generally cannot raise a commercial device license fee more than 3% above the prior year's fee. It may round up to the next whole dollar and change each device type and class's fee only once yearly. When establishing a fee, the law allows a larger increase, but not above the device's statutory maximum. For fiscal years beginning July 1, 2026, and July 1, 2027, rules may authorize increases up to 10% over the preceding fiscal year's fee. These temporary increases are not automatic and cannot exceed the statutory maximums.
