Oregon public universities and Oregon-based, generally accredited private colleges can pay current or prospective student athletes. Payments must cover use of their name, image, likeness, or athletic reputation. The law sets no payment amount and does not require colleges to pay. It also removes the four-year ban on hiring agents who represented or worked for a college during that period. These changes took effect immediately upon enactment.
For athletes on a team or seeking to join, colleges may use disclosed contracts only to check for conflicting terms. Contracts, proposed contracts, and related records held by colleges are confidential when they concern an athlete’s economic rights. These records are exempt from Oregon public records disclosure.
