Union representatives gain protection against impersonation

Oregon law bans falsely claiming union approval for spoken or written messages intended to harm or disrupt the union. To protect public-employee members, each union has sole authority over choosing its representatives as part of its internal governance. Covered representatives include exclusive and designated representatives, union staff, and members holding elected or appointed union positions. A union representative alleging a violation can sue for damages. A plaintiff who proves false impersonation receives $6,250 per incident, in addition to any other damages awarded.
