Faster warrant responses in abuse cases

Beginning May 1, 2026, communications providers doing business in Oregon must quickly answer certain search warrants. The rule covers warrants for provider records in domestic violence, stalking, or violations of a stalking protective order. Social media platforms must produce the listed records within 72 hours of proper service. Other providers have five business days. The warrant must say “Immediate Response Required,” state that this law applies, and state the correct deadline. Covered providers include social media, internet, cellular, VoIP, email, and similar services that store or send messages or data.
