Oregon licenses rural emergency hospitals

The Oregon Health Authority must set rules and an application process to license rural emergency hospitals. Only hospitals that meet the federal definition of a rural emergency hospital can apply. This creates a clear state path for eligible rural hospitals to seek that license. For rural residents, access to local emergency care may improve if their hospital gets licensed. The law takes effect 91 days after the Legislature adjourns its 2026 regular session.
