Licenses for mobile pharmacies in 2027

Starting January 1, 2027, the State Board of Pharmacy licenses mobile pharmacies. To qualify, the applicant must be a registered retail drug outlet with a permanent site. It must also be a critical access pharmacy, a hospital, a federally qualified health center, or a county government. The applicant pays a board fee and follows board rules.

Emergency rules and start dates

The State Board of Pharmacy must write rules for the mobile pharmacy program. The rules must let mobile pharmacies stay longer during declared public health or natural disaster emergencies. The board can also allow a mobile pharmacy to share a site with a mobile dental service. Section 2 starts January 1, 2027, and the board can act before then to prepare. The rest of the law starts 91 days after the 2026 session ends.

Safety and limits for mobile pharmacies

Starting January 1, 2027, a mobile pharmacy must have a pharmacist on site when open. It must track drugs moved to the unit and record what it dispenses within 24 hours. It must store medicines safely and follow manufacturer, DEA, and board rules. It must keep a plan so patients can get refills if the unit is not available, and keep contact with local public health. A mobile pharmacy cannot stay in the same spot more than 10 days in a board-set period. It also cannot operate more than 14 days in the same five-mile area in that period. The board sets the period by rule.
