OHSU can form nonprofit care groups

The law lets OHSU create and run tax-exempt nonprofit groups to provide clinical care and support faculty work. OHSU may be a corporate member when the group is formed under Oregon nonprofit law. These groups count as public employers and public bodies under Oregon law. That means state employment, labor, liability, and property rules apply to them and their staff.

State liability protection for OHSU clinicians

When giving patient care at these OHSU groups, physicians, naturopathic physicians, and dentists are treated as working in their state job for liability rules. Some professional corporation rules do not apply to these entities (ORS 58.500 and 58.503(2)).
