Beginning August 1, 2025, Oregon raises livestock brand activation and renewal fee caps from $100 to $200. These caps apply to each brand for each species. Sheep renewal fees remain capped at $50, and the $25 brand recording fee still applies per brand and species. The Oregon Department of Agriculture sets actual activation and renewal fees by rule.
Beginning January 1, 2026, the Oregon Department of Agriculture can hire qualified contractors to perform livestock brand inspections. Contractors must follow department rules and contract terms. They must pay fees covering the department’s costs to develop, manage, and enforce the contracts. This contracting authority does not set livestock owner fees or guarantee more inspections.
Beginning January 1, 2026, Oregon authorizes a program letting eligible livestock owners perform their own brand inspections. Participants must be sole owners, hold a registered brand, and follow department rules. Each movement or transaction is limited to 25 animals within a 24-hour period. Participants pay fees covering program administration, enforcement, and oversight; the law sets no dollar amount or guaranteed savings. The department can deny, suspend, or revoke privileges for gross negligence, willful misconduct, or repeated violations, with reconsideration available.
