Health providers face fewer product liability claims

Oregon's law applies to lawsuits started on or after September 26, 2025. It protects licensed doctors, health care facilities, hospital-affiliated clinics, professional health care entities, and licensed residential care facilities, including assisted living and memory care facilities. When they supply products during patient care without helping design or make them, they are not treated as product makers, distributors, sellers, or lessors. For facilities, clinics, and professional entities, this protection does not cover products offered to the general public in retail settings. These protections limit patients' ability to recover from those providers through product liability claims involving qualifying products.
