Oregon limits sharing personal data with brokers

Oregon public bodies cannot give personally identifiable information to a data broker unless the broker gives a written promise. The promise must say the data will not be sold or shared to help enforce federal immigration law. If the public body reasonably believes the promise is false or leaves out key facts, it must refuse to share. Public bodies still share if state public-records laws (ORS 192.311 to 192.478) require it, a court orders it, or the data is already public and shared on the same terms. The law takes effect on the 91st day after the 2026 regular session adjourns.
