Guests in Oregon hotels and short-term rentals can sue lodging providers or booking intermediaries over images or audio handled without consent. This covers capturing, making, storing, transferring, transmitting or broadcasting recordings, or intentionally letting someone else do so. Guests must occupy a private space owned or controlled by that business, where they reasonably expect privacy. Private spaces include bedrooms and bathrooms. Guests who win are entitled to compensation for losses and reasonable attorney fees, in addition to other available legal relief. Claims must be filed within two years after the conduct occurs. The law takes effect on the 91st day after Oregon’s 2025 regular legislative session adjourns for the year.
