Oregon medical assistance recipients get a 72-hour deadline for decisions on requests for advance coverage approval for specialized equipment repairs. The Oregon Health Authority or a coordinated care organization must decide within 72 hours after receiving the request. Covered equipment must be individually configured to meet a person’s unique needs for daily activities, including work. It includes manual and power wheelchairs, adaptive seating, positioning systems, adaptive strollers, standing frames, gait trainers, and designated options or accessories. For coordinated care organizations, the rule applies to state contracts entered into, amended, or renewed on or after the law’s effective date. The deadline does not guarantee approval or require repairs to be completed within 72 hours.
