The law takes effect on the 91st day after Oregon’s 2025 regular legislative session ends. In counties that prepare voters’ pamphlets, county, city, and special district candidates or their agents can submit candidate materials. These include a portrait and a typed statement explaining why the candidate should be elected. Primary election filing runs from 120 through 68 days before the election. General election filing runs from 120 through 70 days before the election. Oregon’s Secretary of State sets filing dates for vacancy elections and elections other than primaries or general elections. Materials must follow the Secretary of State’s rules, and the county clerk cannot accept them without the required fee. Each candidate’s pamphlet space must identify who supplied the materials. It must also include a bold warning that the county has not checked the information for accuracy.
