Oregon seeks SNAP protection for care credits

Oregon’s Department of Human Services must seek federal approval to keep monthly advance dependent care tax credit payments from counting toward SNAP eligibility. The U.S. Department of Agriculture must approve this request before the exclusion applies; the law itself does not change eligibility. The law takes effect 91 days after Oregon’s 2025 regular legislative session adjourns. The request is due within 90 days after that effective date. Oregon must report its status to lawmakers by September 15, 2026, then annually through the September 15 following federal approval or denial. The request and reporting requirements end January 2, 2031.
