Fewer short-day protections for some charter students

The law exempts voluntarily enrolled Oregon public charter students from certain state rules on shortened school days. The exemption applies only when most students at the school do not have disabilities. The school cannot be designed to serve students with challenging behaviors or complex medical needs. Its school year must be longer than the district’s where it is located. Its regular yearly schedule must provide at least 95% of the hours most same-grade students receive in the student’s home district. The student cannot be limited to fewer instruction and educational-service hours than most nondisabled same-grade students at that charter. The law took effect immediately upon enactment.
