Educators face fines for proven misconduct

Oregon’s Teacher Standards and Practices Commission can fine license holders when covered disciplinary charges are proven. This applies to conduct on or after July 1, 2026. Each fine is capped at $1,000 for a single violation. The commission must set fine amounts through rules. Money collected goes to the commission’s account in the State Treasury.

New deadlines for complaints against educators

For complaints filed on or after January 1, 2026, Oregon’s Teacher Standards and Practices Commission can require proof of district-level efforts. Complainants may need to show they tried the employing school district’s complaint process. If required proof is not received within six months after notice, the commission no longer has to investigate.
