Oregon changes label rules for sellers of fertilizer and related soil products. Products claiming primary nutrients must guarantee nitrogen forms that add up to the total nitrogen guarantee. When a secondary nutrient or micronutrient is advertised in both elemental and another form, that form’s guarantee cannot exceed the nutrient’s total. The law removes the separate, indented listing requirement for that form. Sellers can label other claimed ingredients as non-plant-food ingredients or beneficial substances, with amounts guaranteed through approved lab methods. When listed alongside guaranteed nutrients, these ingredients must use the matching “ALSO CONTAINS” format. Products with more than 0.1% boron or more than 0.001% molybdenum must guarantee that nutrient’s amount and warn buyers to follow the maker’s directions. The Oregon Department of Agriculture can set fertilizer and agricultural amendment label rules aligned with national standards.
