You can cancel a written landscape contract within three business days after signing, even without owning or renting the property. Send written notice clearly stating your intent to cancel; email, fax, and other written electronic notices count. This right does not apply if you agree in writing to let work start before that period ends. It also does not apply if you agree to contract changes after that period ends. The landscape business must give you written notice of this right when you sign.
Oregon Construction Contractors Board license holders can install ornamental water features without a separate landscape contracting license. This exemption covers installation by a licensed person or business. It does not create a general exemption for unlicensed installers or other landscape work.
Oregon's landscape board extends its independent-contractor determination to more work by licensed landscape businesses. Added work includes backflow testing through certified employees. It also includes backflow assembly installation, repair, and maintenance for irrigation or ornamental water features when plumbing-license exemptions apply. Irrigation-control wiring and outdoor landscape lighting qualify when electrical-license exemptions apply. Covered tree work includes removal, pruning, limb or stump removal, and supporting trees or limbs with guy wires.
