10-year renewal of hospital tax breaks

Hospital units that had these tax breaks on January 1, 2025 can keep them for 10 more years. The new 10-year term starts the day you file an application with the Puerto Rico Secretary of the Treasury. If your benefits expired before January 1, 2025, you can still get a new 10-year period by applying by January 31, 2026 and meeting the law’s other rules.

Hospitals must file 2-year quality certification

Any hospital unit using these tax breaks must file a medical excellence certification every two years. File it by the last day of your taxable year with the Puerto Rico Secretary of the Treasury. The Secretary of Health issues the certification and will set the rules by regulation. You must repay the Health Department for inspection costs. Treasury, Economic Development, and Health must update their rules to carry out this law.
