Fewer signatures, earlier delegate deadlines

The law cuts the signatures needed to run as a national-convention delegate from 150 to 50. Nomination papers must be filed with the local board where signers live by 4:00 p.m. on the 54th day before the presidential preference primary. Local boards must certify them to the secretary of state by 4:00 p.m. on the 53rd day. By 4:00 p.m. on the 50th day before the presidential primary, delegate candidates may file approval documentation from the presidential candidate or a party steering or screening committee. If approval is not given, pledged delegates still appear on the ballot under party rules.
