New Narragansett Towers license plate

The DMV now offers a special Narragansett Towers plate. The Friends group designs it with the DMV, and the State Police approve the final design. It replaces your regular plates; you must remove and return the old ones and carry the new registration card. Orders must meet the state’s minimum prepaid counts. The Friends handle the first order, and the DMV makes plates only after the minimum is met. The DMV sets prepayment and other steps to run the program.

Fees and funding for Towers plate

When you get the plate, you pay a $40 issuance fee in addition to your normal registration. The $40 is split: $20 to the state’s general fund and $20 to the Friends for arts and preservation programs in Rhode Island. Each time you renew, you pay an extra $10 that goes to the Friends. There are no refunds if you cancel the plate early. The Friends must file a yearly accounting before they receive money, and they must use Rhode Island‑sourced funds only for Rhode Island charities.
