No-cost vaccines for insured Rhode Islanders
Beginning January 1, 2027, health plans delivered, issued, or renewed in Rhode Island must cover vaccines that RIDOH recommends with no copays or coinsurance. Rhode Island Medicaid, including managed care, also covers these vaccines with no cost-sharing, as federal law allows. State employee and retiree health plans follow the same rule. Coverage depends on vaccines that RIDOH recommends and posts. If your plan renews later in 2027, the rule starts at renewal.
Stronger state vaccine program and registry
The health department strengthens the statewide vaccine program and registry. It includes routine shots for kids and adults recommended by national experts, and the director can add other vaccines to protect public health. An advisory group of a primary care doctor, an epidemiologist, a pharmacist, and major insurers reviews costs and rollout and advises the state. RIDOH posts vaccine guidance online and coordinates with the insurance commissioner. The registry remains confidential under state and federal privacy laws.
