Stronger privacy for judges and families

The law protects current, retired, or recalled judges and magistrates in Rhode Island, and Rhode Island‑resident federal judges, plus their immediate family in the same home. After you send a written notice, state, county, and city agencies must remove your or your family’s personal information (like home address, phone, email, or SSN) from public pages within 72 hours and cannot repost it without your written OK. Data companies, businesses, and associations must stop selling or sharing your personal information for money and take it off their public sites within 10 business days. They may still share with government or law enforcement, health care, insurance, or financial institutions, for fraud prevention, or under legal process. An authorized agent can file for you only with a notarized affidavit you signed. On the public delinquent taxpayer list, your name, tax type, and amount can stay, but your address must be removed after the Tax Division gets your notice. You and your family can sue in Rhode Island court to stop illegal disclosures and recover costs and reasonable lawyer fees if the court grants relief.
