Police must use standard domestic violence reports

The law requires police who respond to or investigate domestic violence or sexual assault to fill out a standard report, even when no arrest is made. The court’s Domestic Violence Training and Monitoring Unit sets the form and how to send it. The form captures names, relationships, sex and birth dates, the time and date, whether children were present, the type and extent of the alleged abuse, weapons, any prior court orders, language barriers, and a felony‑enhancement note. Each department must submit the form and the police narrative electronically at the end of every month. For cases still under investigation or with an unserved warrant, they must send them as soon as possible, and no later than the end of the calendar year of the incident. This act takes effect upon passage.
