Longer port leases for fishing businesses

Commercial fishing businesses can lease certain state port properties for up to 40 years. Sites include the Port of Galilee, State Pier #9 in Newport, Chase Marina in Tiverton, and other marine facilities run by the state environmental agency. The director may lease storage areas, wharves, piers, docks, sheds, warehouses, and industrial sites under their charge for these uses. Leases must be for commercial fishing industry purposes. Longer terms help businesses plan and invest in port-based operations.
