Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 1 costs, 2 mixed.

Extra fees for Hockey Hall plates

On top of regular registration fees, you pay a one-time $40 surcharge to get this plate. The state keeps $20, and $20 goes to the Hockey Hall of Fame. Each time you renew, you pay an extra $10. That renewal money goes to the Hockey Hall of Fame.

New Rhode Island Hockey Hall plates

You can get a Rhode Island Hockey Hall of Fame license plate. The plate is the same size as a regular plate; the design is set with the DMV and approved by State Police. DMV only makes the plate after the Hockey Hall of Fame meets the state’s minimum prepaid order and submits paperwork; the group handles the first order. The plate replaces your old plates and keeps your current registration number. You must remove and return your old plates, carry the registration certificate in the car, and there are no refunds if you cancel early.

Plate funds stay local with oversight

Money from these plates must support Rhode Island charities. The Hockey Hall of Fame must use Rhode Island-sourced funds for Rhode Island-based groups. The group must file an annual accounting report before it gets any distributions.
