Bars get warning for first violation

If a business breaks this lid or sign rule one time, the department issues only a warning for the first offense. This lowers first-time penalty risk for licensed bars and restaurants. This law takes effect upon passage.

Bars and restaurants must offer lids on request

Rhode Island bars and restaurants must give you a removable drink lid when you ask. The lid must attach to the rim and fit at least one cup they use. They must post this sign where you can see it: "Don't get roofied! Drink lids available here. Ask a staff member for details." They may charge a small extra fee based on the lids’ wholesale cost, or they can give lids for free. This law takes effect upon passage.
