Shoreline renters must get access notice

If you rent a home on shoreline property, your landlord must give you a written shoreline access notice before your lease starts. It explains that the public may use the shoreline up to ten feet landward of the recognizable high tide line, subject to state limits. The notice must list any public rights-of-way the landlord knows about. If you ask, the landlord must give you copies of any access documents they have. The notice can be in your lease or sent as a separate written notice. It must also tell you to contact the Coastal Resources Management Council, your city or town, or local nonprofits to check for public access routes.
