Easier school enrollment for military kids

The law defines a military-connected student as a child of an active-duty service member or a Rhode Island National Guard member on full-time active service. Military families can enroll their child in Rhode Island public schools early by remote registration at no charge when they show orders to be stationed in the state this or next school year. Schools must treat the child as a resident for enrollment and cannot require an in-person visit to register. Families may use a temporary on-base billeting address, a purchased or rented home, or federal/off-base military housing for the enrollment address. Proof of residency is due within 10 days after the child starts attending school.
