Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

1 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.

No-fee and capped school meal payments

The law caps vendor fees for school meal payments at the actual cost and no more than 2% of each deposit. RIDE can set a lower cap and will issue statewide rules. Every public school must offer at least one no-fee way to pay, like in person, by mail, or a no-fee electronic transfer, and must clearly tell parents how to use it. Before you finish an online payment, the site must show any fees and how to use a no-fee option. Disclosures cannot be hidden, and districts can void new contracts that ignore these rules. The law takes effect upon passage.
