Retired-status license for 65+ professionals

Beginning January 1, 2027, seniors with a Rhode Island professional license can switch to a retirement-status license. You must be at least 65 and currently hold a Division of Professional Regulation license. The division may allow younger applicants for good cause. You send in your original license and a form saying you are retired and will not practice. The division returns your license marked "Retired." The fee is $20. You may not practice or offer to practice while on retired status; violations are treated like unauthorized practice. To return to active status, you file the reinstatement form, pay the then-current annual fee, and show you completed the most recent continuing education or training.
